So I'm driving from Valrico (eastern Brandon, Florida) and taking Highway 60 to I75. It's later at night on a Sunday. I have a State Trooper in a Camaro pull along side me. His lights were flashing like crazy. Did he try pulling behind me and I not see him?
He asks for driver's license and registration. I'm of course sitting with my hands on the 10 and 2 and ask for permission to reach behind the seat to get the registration. I think cops know if they're going to ticket you before you even roll down your window. He confirms I'm wearing contacts, asks about the PA system in my hatch area (rental for last night's Bentancourt-Engolio wedding at Avila) and asks where I'm coming from. I reply the truth, my mom's house. I admit that I zipped off the line but didn't know I was speeding, which was the truth. He asks me to slow it down and I did.. for the ride home.
I'm not trying to brag or anything, but I've been very lucky and I thanked God that I was not ticketed. The past few times I get pulled I figure that it's my time to get ticketed.

Wal-Mart's (attempted) invasion of Temple Terrace
So Wal-Mart would like a piece of land rezoned so they can drop one of their SuperCenters a minute away from the funky49 music productions studio. Funk that! Wally-Mart is going to be pulling a bunch of people from the surrounding area into my quiet part of a quiet town on the border of Tampa. I'm here because I want to drive into the crazy, not have the crazy just down the street from me.
The roads are not set up for this influx of people. If this new Wal-Mart needs cops, they're not going to be Hillsborough County Sheriffs, they are going to be Temple Terrace po-po. When it rained a lot last year, the street kinda in front of where the store would be flooded. Is some mega pond in the back of the store going to mitigate that plus compensate for the concrete replacing the dirt? Riiight.
Sure Wal-Mart tried to be as good a potential neighbor as (legally) possible and slightly more. Unfortunately, hiding a store with the Spanish-tiled roof behind some non-indigenous trees isn't good enough. Try dropping your store in a more appropriate location.
Honestly, I would be less concerned if this were a SuperTarget. Studies have proven that 5 of 4 shoppers at Wal-Mart are less clean than shoppers of Target stores. It's true. Statistics don't lie, statisticians do. Even if it was Target, a better location would be near actual roads that could support the influx of shoppers. How about on Fowler next to I75 or trying to be an exceptional neighbor by helping redevelop the shopping center on 56th street south of Bullard Parkway? This isn't the nicest part of Temple Terrace and Wal-Mart wouldn't make it nicer.

Pulled over again
I got pulled over again. I am not proud. Coming home from 'studio night' at the Black Hole, I did not fully stop at two stop signs and went 60 in a 30. No tickets. Why? 'cause I'm very lucky and fortunate and polite. I also kept my hands at the 10 and 2 positions as much as possible and asked permission to reach for my registration. Did those things help? Possibly. Your mileage my vary... Now drive slower and come to complete stops at stop signs.

"I don't know how to put this... but I'm kind of a big deal." -Ron Burgundy
HipCat took me by the hand (well, not really) and invited me and Ry to his workplace. This workplace happens to be a local news station. Informing people... now isn't that important? He gave us a private tour and I wore a blue blazer. We saw the green room (which wasn't green and had a closet which lacked a stylish sport coat like mine), a cube farm and a bunch of nerdy technology. HipCat's desk has a view of Raymond James Stadium. My desk at work has a view of grey cubical walls. The highlight of the tour was the room with a bunch of cameras, newsdesks and flat panel tvs which look good on television.
So when in Rome...
I did my faux-Ron Burgundy impersonation and we got some action pictures taken. Pictured from left to right is Ry, HipCat, HipKitty and myself. Click the pix for non-cropped shots you web noob!

SunnComm malware/scumware fix
net stop sbcphid

Props to J. Alex Halderman for helping destroy malware/scumware. Remember kids, corporations are in business to serve the customer. In exchange for turning a profit while serving the customer, the owners (stockholders) of the company get paid. This isn't revolutionary... just sane. When companies install malware/scumware on their customers computers to keep them from playing music they paid for they are not serving their customer well. Power to the people baby.

So I was in an opera tonight
Yesterday we had our costumes on for the first time. Tonight we had our makeup on for the first time. Getting makeup put on us meant waiting for a long time, getting down into our own personal underwear + a pair of flesh-tone loaner underwear (yeah, they said they washed them) over them and having makeup women pat us down with sponges. I went from my own skin coloring to an Egyptian one in seconds. We also had makeup put on our entire faces and around our eyes.
Some memorable moments from our part in the show was one guy who had to hurry to the front of the line to get on stage and when we were asked to run backstage from one side to the other, we were asked to slow down. What?! Ask us to run and then when we run tell us that we're going too fast (and thus making too much noise).
My fellow soldiers were all mega cool and we even took time to take some group shots. I'll upload my shots to a gallery and hopefully the other digital camera-having will share their shots for the gallery also. Special thanks to Dante for taking the shots of me.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the movie)
Due to my elite connection (his codename: HipCat) I was able to see to the new Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie tonight, sneak preview style. Honestly I've only read the books, most more than twice. I think I have some of "the Restaurant" on LP.
To the movie I brought along my trusty Tigger towel and was sad to see the only other people with Hitchhiker's paraphernalia were my friends (Ry with his ducky towel, Al with his "Don't Panic" button from an Infocom game.
The movie was good and I liked it. There were neat graphics, good narration, funny actors and the woman that plays Trillian is a babe. Mos Def does a good job at being Ford Prefect and wielding his towel. Zaphod was crazy, as he should be. I didn't know he was so stoopid. The actor kinda reminded me of that guy in Dazed and Confused that said "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age." Arthur Dent was fine too. Some of my favorite scenes involved Magrathea, great visuals man! The Slartibartfast / Dentarthurdent conversation went just as well as in the book.
Those who are expecting it to be just like the book need to learn to sit back, relax, enjoy themselves and the movie. Yes, I'm talking to you Mr. 50's and unhappy with the movie. There were several times I thought it was too 'out there' for non Adams fans but the crowd was lively. That must have been because everyone was seeing the movie for free?
If you like wacky humor and/or British comedy.. go see this movie. If you like Douglas Adams' work, go see this movie. If you're a stick-in-the-mud, please sit at home and wait for the Vogon's to read you poetry.
Uses (potential and otherwise) for our towels at the movies tonight:
.To be stylish
.To protect the head from being rained on
.To save seats by draping towels on the back of the chairs
.To smuggle illegal root beer floats into the movie
.To wipe off hands of popcorn goodness
.To assault friends
.To dry hands in the restroom
Note to Ry: YOU HAD TO ORDER A LARGE?!?

"Why are you driving like an idiot?"
I was pulled over today. I was making a left turn at a light with a red pickup truck in front of me. He took off slloooooww when the light turned green. This was upsetting. I stayed in first gear and when we had broken white lines on the road we were turning onto I brought my car up to 8000+ rpm and passed the pickup with as much vtec/cai noise near his cab as I could. HA! Take that slow pick'em up truck! I continued down the road.
Minutes later I have blue and red flashing lights in my rear view mirror. I pull over three lanes of traffic and lock my hands on the ten-and-two of the steering wheel. A state trooper asks for my license & insurance and asks me "Why are you driving like an idiot?". I reply with the truth, hands again locked at the ten-and-two, "I'm late helping my dad with his lawn". After running my stuff he just gives me a verbal warning.
cliffs: speed past slow truck, get pulled over, get a warning about driving like an idiot, i'm lucky.

I'm going to be in an opera
I'm going to a rehearsal today to be in an opera. It's called Aida.
Technically I'll be a "super" which apparently the way opera folk say the word "volunteer". I'm told to dress comfortably and that I'll probably be a soldier.
I have to go to an all-Saturday rehearsal and a few hours next Thursday night. The performances are on next Friday night and Sunday afternoon.
Update: I'm going to be carrying a scrab shield, some treasure and a banner in the show.

MC Chris 0wns
Rydell and I saw MC Chris last night. If ya don't know.. you don't know.
First the opening acts. The first was a duo who sang with what sounded like demo patterns from your ordinary Yamaha keyboard. It did have good sound some how. They were pretty crazy/goofy and it was their job to bring smiles to the crowd. They did. The second was Tres Bien who had guitars and drums. They brought more musical professionalism to the stage. Their energy made people mosh which made me raise my elbows in defense.
I truely appreciated the third crew. They go by the name Yip-Yip. They're synths + beats with a stage show. From what I saw and after talking with them, they use a Korg MS-10, Novation K-station, MiniMoog, Roland JP-8000, two cheesey mixers and various other gear including a funky voice modulator. Lots of resonance + cutoff filter tweaking with these avant-garde artsy beat dropping bastards. Like I said, I appreciated them a lot.
And finally MC Chris.
MC Chris owns. Great show. My fav part was during the outro of his show he rhymed the first verse of PE's Bring the Noise. When he met EVERYONE after the show, I made sure to shake his hand, get my ticket signed and tell him that was one of my favorite moments of his show. He then asks (correctly) if I was the guy in front that was rhyming along with him. Hell yeah that was me. So know you know that MC Chris and funky49 are down with PE. I regret I didn't ask him the question "What's the future of Public Enemy?"
Chris took a picture of Rydell and me. Rydell complimented him in the way he used the camera correctly. MC Chris' reply? "I'm a renaissance man". True. That sounds like the topic of a future song if you ask me.
If ya don't know, you know a little bit now.

The new track is complete.
You can download it by a right-click and save as here.
I'm positive. It's my first rap tune shorter than 3 minutes. The hook is Sarah Brightman from a Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack. A thank you to Heather S for turning me onto that movie.

funky49's cheesesteak recipe (aka the stevesteak)
The following recipe will make 2-3 sandwiches.
material
1 lb top round roast beef from the deli (shreaded/sliced thin if possible)
.5 lb cheese (.25 american + .25 of provlone or havarti or whatever youd like)
1 loaf French baguette bread (i like Publix's bakery bread)
1 bottle Beano's Submarine Dressing
preperation
Heat up a griddle to around 250/300F. Squirt some sub dressing (~1TB spoon) where you are placing the meat. Cut the baguette bread into 2 or 3 pieces. I recommend making the bread "inside out" by pulling out the 'excess' bread in the middle. Lay out the shreaded roast beef and let it cook up some. Chop it up into bits using a spatula. When the meat is almost done changing color, arrange it into 2 or 3 piles that will fit into the rolls. Place the cheese on top of the pile of meat. Allow the cheese to melt and maybe mush it up into the meat some. Take one of your rolls and lay it on top of the meat and cheese pile. Allow the bread to absorb some of the steam. Using the spatula, get it under the meat and cheese and flip it right-side up while moving the roll with your other hand. Serve with salty, crispy potato chips. I recommend Cape Cod's kettle cooked 40% reduced fat chips. You can also cook add in chopped onions and green peppers into the mix (heating them up before starting the meat). The true Stevesteak has no vegetables... only bread + meat + cheese. Mmmm...

Notes from February
food
In the 1950s, people envisioned eating in the future would be comprised of getting everything you needed in pill form. Thank the God that never played out. My vision of the future is that people will consume nurishment off of STICKS. These sticks will allow people to eat without having to wash their hands. It is easier to dip/roll your food in condiments. These sticks will also keep food warm by keeping them hot on the inside. The sticks will be washed to be used again. The future of eating is available now at your local state fair. Everything is available in stick form from corndogs to mushrooms. Rejoice in the goodness of the future!
beads
I've noticed something interesting at the local Mardi Gras-esque celebration (Tampa's Gasparilla). The beads that revelers throw have the highest value before they are tossed. EVERYONE wants those beads, especially if they appear rare, have extra large beads or have special qualities like marijuana leaves. This percieved value will cause females will attract the eyes of the tosser with boobies. The next highest beads are those in the air. Drunk men will jump their highest, juiced by the possible catch of beads that were purchased in bulk for small sum of money. Some men will even fight for the plastic goodness. Beads that are not caught and hit the ground lose a lot of their value. Some will never bother to stoop and pick up beads, the percieved value so low. The least valuable beads are ones that are broken, even though a quick twist of the two beads at the point of the break will amalgamize (my new word) the string.

Jello Shots
There are 68 jello shots in my fridge right now. To make alcoholic jello, you replace the "cold water" in the recipe with "cold liquor". The best flavor seems to be Coconut Rum + Watermelon jello. Your liver has been warned.

Positive (lyrics to a new track)
I don't have the hook. I have the barest pieces of the track. I do have the rhymes.
1
These rhymes, positively about positivity
are possibly explicitly in my pocket see
good health, staying away from surgeries
I'm fighting germs, they're not fighting me
my mind full, my belly full, my bank full
got so many reasons to be thankful
RSX not a Hummer, SUVs are a bummer
just got a cute girl's cellular phone number
juiced, excited, caffinanted, elated
strong, bright like a light not shaded
energized with head held high with pride, cheeks
dry - been long time since last I cried
not frontin', can't get held down by nothin'
feel so fine all I wanna do is start struttin'
fully charged, protons radiate from me
easy to see in me all the energy
2
zestfully clean - nobody can best me
since day number one, God has blessed me
yeah I rock, pumped like fad Reebok's
electricity runs from Kangol to socks
Dragon is the Year, Libra is the sign
eye for an eye turn's the whole world blind
turn the other cheek, world goes to those meek
God made you and you and you and me unique
Love it when rebate checks get cashed
love runner's high when I make a mad dash
love it in class when I earn an A plus
love the feeling when on a girl I crush
love being in seventh heaven floating on cloud nine
love being in the groove, spitin' my own rhymes
love shifting Type S, six speeds, it's the best
love touching nice breast while back at my nest
3
life hit me with minor thirds and seconds
I hit back, perfect fourth and fifth reppin'
my proclivity to positivity and creativity
is reactivity to negativity in the cities
my theory, lift others up and you'll get lifted
let smiles by the mile shine when gifted
do unto others my brothersssssssss....
as you'd have do unto your owns mothers
love it when the breakbeat moves my feet
Mocha Frappachino, my preferred coffee
the assembly of my flows is like Lego
but how its going to end up, nobody knows
there ain't no box, instructions for construction
but to be Stevie-Steve, that is my function
every day like the sun I want to rise and shine
many beats per minute --- flies my mind
outro
love livin' life on the natural high
save your goodbyes tilI the day I die
so till that day I'm about hellos, stayin'
mellow, looking for a girl to wrestle in Jello

let smiles by the mile shine when gifted
do unto others my brothersssssssss....
as you'd have do unto your owns mothers
love it when the breakbeat moves my feet
Mocha Frappachino, my preferred coffee
the assembly of my flows is like Lego
but how its going to end up, nobody knows
there ain't no box, instructions for construction
but to be Stevie-Steve, that is my function
every day like the sun I want to rise and shine
many beats per minute --- flies my mind
outro
love livin' life on the natural high
save your goodbyes tilI the day I die
so till that day I'm about hellos, stayin'
mellow, looking for a girl to wrestle in Jello

Fuck Valentine's Day (the retraction)
I hereby take credit for writing the following Anti-Valentine's Day poem. I wrote it while working a computer help desk job at IBM in Feb 1997. I sent it to my friend, Steve Sock, who forwarded it to at least one person. It found it's way to newsgroups and email inboxes all over the world.
It's a horrible poem. I'm sorry my creativity gave this poem to the world. I'd like to take back every word and hope everyone has a great V-Day in 2005. To quote ol' Burt, "What the world needs now, is love sweet love".
"Fuck Valentines Day"
Hearts and roses and kisses galore...
What the hell is all that shit for?
People get mushy and start acting queer
It is definitely the most annoying day of the year
This day needs to get the hell over with and pass
Before i shove a dozen roses up Cupid's ass
I'll spend the day so drunk I can't speak
And wear all black for the rest of the week
Guys act all sweet, but it soon will fade
For all they are doing is trying to get laid
The arrow Cupid shot at me must not have hit
Because I think love is a crock of shit
So heres my story... what else can I say?
Love bites my ass... Fuck Valentines Day!

A restful day
I've been hitting the gym pretty hard recently so today was a break day. No cardio. No pushing weight. Just chillin' man.
Today I was pulled over by the Tampa Police Department on Busch Blvd. Some of you might be thinking "For speeding? It's that darn cold air intake, isn't it?" Well it was not for speeding. The nice copy gave me a warning that I was playing my music too loud. I didn't even know, really. I thanked him and raised my windows, closed the sunroof. I was listening to Euphonic's R.H.Y.T.H.M. at the time. I bought Euphonic's CD when I was in London. I bought their record years later.
I purchased a Numark mixer today. It's the DXM01 and very competent for what I need it for. I recorded myself attempting to beat juggle for the first time with two beat up LPs of Janet Jackson. I am horrible but will attempt to improve. The 22Jan05 Janet Jackson beat juggling is available on funky49.com

The 49 Cent Store (001)
Tonight I bought a DVD for 49¢ at my local K-Mart in the ghetto. What kind of DVD can you get for 49¢ you ask?
The title is Santa Claus. The premise is as follows: Pitch, the mean-spirited devil, is trying to ruin Christmas. (wait, it gets better) Santa Claus teams up with Merlin the Magician and the children of the world in order to save the day!
Maybe I need to devote an entire blog about things I see on sale for 49¢?

New web host... soon
I'm moving to a new web host.. thus further dating the rhymes in the track "Never Going Back".
First getting BitTorrent files becomes shadowy and now the pair.com folks will no longer have the pleasure of getting cease & desist emails because of my remixes.
The new web host will give me more storage space, the ability to have PHP code in my HTML, Fantastico scripts, be based outside of the United States and I'll get a favorable exchange rate with my Canadian neighbors.
More storage space is good as I assume I will only create and not un-create more tunes. PHP is good because of a suggestion that RJ gave me about my code, making it more modular. Fantastico makes it easy for me to put back in bulletin boards and mailing lists and other web site functionality.
My web host being based outside of the US will hopefully facilitate me being able to offer my Beastie Boys remixes to the good internet netizens again. Can the DMCA be used for a web host in Canada? We'll find out. I contacted the intellectual property lawyer of the business school in my university but he never replied to my email. I am a hot button issue. Don't push me!
Pair.com is a good, solid web hosting company... I just need more web hosting for the money.

Sickness stories
I've been sick for the past 6 days with the mildest symptoms happening about 10 days ago. On last Monday or Tuesday night I was doing some 'productive' coughing (ie, up comes some phlegm) and I was on the couch. I didn't want to get up and spit it into the sink or a toilet so I spit this thick, green loogie into a cup on the table. The next morning I pour myself some apple juice (130% Vitamin C baby) into this same cup and take a huge gulp of my snot. MMMmmm That's Good.
I also rented Matrix: Revolutions. Damn that movie sucked. For me there is no 2nd or 3rd movies... there is only the first movie and the Animatrix. Watch-ow-ski Brothers... you destroyed something good.
After my body was clearly doing a horrible job fighting off the sickness I visited the doctor, got a script for anti-biotics and am taking them now.
